"2009 World Championships"

Pinehurst North Carolina

Round One Results
Bryson got a good nights sleep last night so he got up bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning ready to go get em, so we headed over to Pinehurst resort to hit some pre-round shots.
He was pretty fired up when we got to the course for our 11:10 Tee Time, he was paired with Dawson Bailey from Cheshire England, and Collier Curd from Kentucky.
They were both good boys and golfers, this course is playing long for most golfers, but the longer hitters can reel it in, but there wasn't one of those in this group.
Bryson started off on the 1st hole ( a pretty long par 5) with a par.
Knocked the next tee shot (PAR 3) on to about 5 ft short of the flag, missed that birdie putt, but had an easy par putt, he went on from there to play very good golf through the round with 2 - 3 putts, and a couple of mis-hits shots but finished with a 38, which is in the ball park of his best golf, I think he has about the 3 rd. lowest score,
but with ties he is in 12th place, 2 shots off the lead, which is an awesome achievement for a little guy from VT.
There are still some players on the course so things could change rapidly.
Another thing is this a 3 round event and anything can happen day to day, people fall, and people rise, and the  number one slot will not be decided until Saturday afternoon.
Bryson has enough talent to stay in the top tier of players, he just needs to keep it all together for 3 days, so wish us luck.
Actually finished in 12th place, 2 shots off the winning pace

Second Round
We arrived at Mid Pines a little early which afforded us a little time to hit a few balls and do some putting before the round.
Bryson started off well with a par putt on the first hole which we had considered all along as a par 6,
He missed his putt (lipped out) which was a great opportunity lost.
The next hole a par 3, he hit the green right on line, but short, he proceeded to 3 putt that hole, another stink'n lip out.
That miss got him a little down and he went on to play the next hole badly too, but still could have done ok had he drained his putt, I just felt at this point it was going to be one of those days.
As I expected he melted down a little and just flat played bad golf for the next couple of holes, with a few of missed putts and a pair of double bogeys.
He raised his hackles after that though and went on to play very good golf on the last 3 holes which are actually the 3 hardest holes on the course.
He finished with straight pars but with all the other shots he gave away earlier he finished with a 44, his worst round of the year, at the worst time of the year, he was bitterly disappointed, consequently so were we.
We know he played his heart out, but just got down for a couple of holes and it took a couple of holes to get it back, in the mean time the strokes keep coming.
The lapse dropped him to tied for 36th place, I'm sure he will play better tomorrow, but it will be too little too late to reach the goal he set for himself, especially since there were some real good rounds posted today.
He will give it his best tomorrow I'm sure, since he has a strong heart, and will.
Picture below of his 3 some.

Final Round

Bryson started off playing well, actually played the whole round quite well, just one of those days where the putts didn't fall, drive hits rake left outside bunker and screws up one hole, a couple of well struck balls that just didn't go the direction, or distance, he wanted, all you golfers have been there, I'm sure.
Anyway he shot a final round 42, not what he, or us, were looking for in regard to score, but such is the game of golf.
He played with a boy and his Dad (caddy), Jose Dibildox from Mexico, another boy Tim Seidel from Germany, who brought along a caddy/teacher from Germany, his parents just spectated, but were very nice folks as well. Good boys followed by a good support group, as I have said before, makes for a wonderful day.
We were pretty lucky in that regard since some groups didn't fare as well.

Full re-cap of the 2009 World Championship
Things got exciting when we barely got started.
We left the house in Plainfield at 3:00AM for a 6:13 flight from Burlington to Newark to catch a connection to Newark.
We arrived in plenty of time, got checked in no problem, the only hitch was that the plane was delayed due to a maintenance problem, so flight was delayed rescheduled for 9:30.
The delay allowed us plenty of time to go upstairs and eat breakfast and relax before our flight.
During the meal we hear over the intercom that our proposed flight had been canceled!!
We go back down to ticketing and they say they will load us on a bus, drive us down to Newark and arriving there in plenty of time for our 2:50 flight.Riiiiight.
Not only did we miss our 2:50 flight, but all the later flights were canceled as well, due to weather..
After some firm negotiations they gave us a voucher for lodging and food in the Holiday Inn North in Newark, which we availed ourselves of.

They rescheduled us a fight on a Continental commuter flight at 7:30 AM from Newark to Dulles, and a United Flight from Dulles to Raleigh Durham, both of which came off without a hitch.
Both flights were smooth and pleasant and finally arrived in Raleigh at about 2:00 PM, we picked up our rental Van and were on our way to Southern Pines.
We arrived at Residence Inn at Southern Pines tired but relieved we were finally "home".
After unpacking we went downstairs to the pool, the boys got in a little pool time and some food.

The "double bogey blues boys" (Brandon and Rob) showed up, so we then drove over to the course played about 4 holes with them.
After we arrived back home we hit the pool again and turned in, all pretty wrung out from our adventure.

Tuesday morning we got up somewhat refreshed, and ready for another busy day.
Bryson was playing in a hole in one contest at a beautiful gated private golf community called Forest Creek, he hit 2 good shots, one short, one about 8ft long, but both right at the flag, but neither good enough for an award.

After that we met, Brandon Wilson and Josh Gruenberg over at Mid Pines, for our second practice round.
Later we went over to the Pinehurst resort and got our registration out of the way.
Today (Wednesday) we had a 8:30 AM Tee Time for our 2nd practice round we had set up with Alex Keener from NY, Josh, from MA. and Rob from MD.
We all had good rounds, but no one was really lighting it up out there, this is a lot longer set up than our normal course setup, with completely different grass and green speeds than New England.

This evening Us Kids held the opening ceremonies with a parade through the main street of Southern Pines, represented in the parade were 45 States and  31 different countries with over 1500 of the finest young golfers on the globe.
Once again Bryson was the only player representing VT, walking and carrying the flag of his home state so proudly.

Bryson was playing average rounds shooting 4 or 5 over both days which will be 2 or 3 off the competitive pace, but we really don't know what everyone is shooting,  but I'm pretty sure  there were some par, and maybe even some sub par rounds shot.

He will have to play some sparkling golf this week to get to, and remain in, the top tier of golfers.
It will be tomorrow afternoon (when the competitive rounds scores are coming in) before we know for sure exactly what his chances are to get in the mix.
He has an 11:10 AM Tee Time Today (Thursday) so wish us luck..
Stayed tuned I will try to post results and a brief round description each day.
